As the NFL trade deadline nears, there is a ton of interest on the Jacksonville Jaguars, but it’s not about the 4-1 team being buyers, but rather about if one player is going to be made available.
Through the first five weeks of the season, Brian Thomas Jr.’s role in the offense has been minimal at best. With Parker Washington breaking out and Jakobi Meyers signed to an extension, Thomas’s name has popped up in trade rumors.
However, according to The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones, the Jaguars have made a decision on whether Thomas will be available for trade or not. Unsurprisingly, as of Week 6, Thomas is not on the trade block despite league-wide interest.
Jaguars don’t put Brian Thomas Jr. on trade block despite interest
“After the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade, league eyes have turned to Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr.,” Jones reports. “… But Jacksonville does not have him on the trade block.”
While there might be interest from NFL clubs about a trade for Thomas, it appears that the Jaguars are not making him available right now.
Washington, Meyers, and Josh Cameron are involved in this Jaguars’ passing attack, and Thomas has fallen by the wayside after being taken in the first round in 2024.
But, despite being an obvious trade candidate, the Jaguars are Super Bowl contenders this season, and Jones’ report indicates they have no intention of trading Thomas this season.
His field-stretching ability and upside as a receiver are enough to justify keeping him on the team, even if his overall involvement in the offense is minimal.
He’s not on the trade block right now, so fans or NFL teams hoping for their team to improve their WR room might have to look for other WR trade targets this Fall instead of Thomas.
