Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs had a slow start to the year, as they lost their first two games of the 2026-27 NBA season. Since then, they have not lost a single game, as they have a seven-game winning streak.
As the star player for the Spurs, Wembanyama has cemented himself as one of the best candidates for the MVP award. He is not an overwhelming favorite because Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic currently holds the top spot on the MVP ladder.
Victor Wembanyama has his sights set on team success and an MVP win
Before the Spurs played against the Sacramento Kings on Friday, Wembanyama had a historic performance against the Dallas Mavericks. That was when he had 52 points, 24 rebounds, and eight blocks.
The Frenchman followed that up with another stellar performance against the Kings. He put up 30 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocks in only 26 minutes. It was another stellar performance that is only dimmed by that bright night against Dallas.

Wembanyama is playing with a chip on his shoulder after the disappointing end to the 2026 NBA Finals. Now, the big man wants to win with the Spurs, but he also has goals for himself this season.
“Of course, it’s always in the back of my mind, but it’s not my primary concern,” Wembanyama said in French about his goals to win with the Spurs and win an MVP award.
With the performances he is having for the Spurs, those two goals are feasible. It will be challenging, but it is possible because the Spurs’ star player is ready to lead his team to victory by putting up gaudy numbers.
