Luka Doncic has continued to be the NBA’s standout player, delivering yet another blockbuster performance on Friday. With his 53-point performance against the Portland Trail Blazers, he maintained his stellar form to start the 2026-27 season.

That continues his spectacular run to start the season, as he is averaging 40.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game. Now, the Los Angeles Lakers have an 8-2 record, which is also good for the #1 seed in the Western Conference.

Luka Doncic admits he is having tons of fun amid his amazing run

Doncic is having the run of his life at the moment, which is not only helping the Lakers, but it is also helping his push for the MVP award. He is the league’s top performer, and the league is recognizing that.

The Blazers were actually ahead during their matchup on Friday, but Doncic kept pushing his team forward with his scoring. The standout moment that helped galvanize the Lakers was Doncic making a buzzer-beating three-pointer from 3/4 of the court away.

Now, Doncic has exceeded Michael Jordan’s best eight-game start to the season with 308 points compared to MJ’s 307. Of course, Wilt Chamberlain still holds the record, as he has three seasons of scoring 317, 400, and 418 points.

Doncic is also the first Lakers player to score 40 points in four consecutive games since Kobe Bryant did so in January 2012. It is truly a magnificent run that is putting Doncic in some special conversations, but he has not forgotten to have fun.

“I’m having a lot of fun. Obviously, playing basketball is a lot of fun for me. It’s more when you play like this and when you win games. So it’s been like this my whole life. Basketball was my dream, playing in the NBA was my dream, so I’m just living my dream,” Doncic said after his 53-point night against the Blazers.

Doncic seems primed to keep this going because he has not shown any signs of slowing down. Of course, he will need to maintain his health moving forward because the Lakers have the spotlight on them with their spot as the #1 seed in the Western Conference.
