The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a 3-2 record. Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy have been a solid pairing so far.

This Steelers offense has looked good at times this season, especially with rookie second-rounder Germie Bernard recently breaking out. But another young breakout wide receiver recently got some bad news.

Roman Wilson was ruled out for Week 6’s matchup early in the week, and unfortunately, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers have placed Wilson on injured reserve before Week 6, meaning he’s out for the next four games.

Steelers make brutal roster move with Roman Wilson amid breakout year

“Steelers placed wide receiver Roman Wilson on injured reserve, sidelining him a minimum of four weeks,” Schefter reports.

Wilson, dealing with a finger injury, is now going to miss a lot more than just Week 6 for the Steelers. He’s now out for at least four games due to this IR news.

That means Wilson will miss Week 6 against the Buccaneers, Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns, and Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

With a Week 9 bye, the earliest Wilson could return for the Steelers is in Week 11, when they face the Philadelphia Eagles.

It’s a brutal update on the breakout wide receiver, as his placement on IR means he won’t play for Pittsburgh until late November, if he returns as soon as he can.

This season, Wilson had 14 receptions for 188 yards and two touchdowns, already setting career highs in receptions and yards, and tying his career high in touchdowns in less than a third of the 2026 NFL season.

Wilson’s connection with Rodgers to start the season was strong, and it looked like he was headed for a big breakout season.

But with his finger injury landing him on IR, Wilson is going to be out through at least Week 10 this season for Pittsburgh.
