Barcelona are on a tear unlike any seen before in La Liga, as they have begun the 2026/27 season in electric fashion.

Hansi Flick’s side have been known for their high-flying attacking style ever since the German arrived in 2024, but they have reached a new level through the early stage of this year, scoring at a truly record pace.

That has seen the Blaugrana absolutely steamroll the competition through the first nine games of the campaign, as they lead the La Liga standings by a five-point margin with a perfect 27 points thus far.

That flawless mark has seen them equal a long-standing La Liga record, and they are on an attacking pace the league has never experienced before. Can they keep this torrid attacking style up the rest of the year and rewrite the Spanish top flight record books?

Barcelona set record for consecutive wins to begin La Liga season

With their 5-2 win over Real Betis on October 17, Barcelona marked their ninth straight victory to begin the 2026/27 La Liga campaign.

That equaled the Spanish top flight record, which has been held for almost 60 years.

The previous record was held by Real Madrid in the 1968/69 season, who started with nine straight victories en route to the club’s 14th league title and second three-peat, only halted at the start of the campaign by a 0-0 draw with Pontevedra. That team was led by Pichichi winner Amancio.

Incredibly, Barcelona can break the record with a win in El Clasico next weekend, which would be a fitting and satisfying way to steal their rival’s famous mark.

Barcelona on outrageous pace for goals in a season

This year’s Barcelona team are on an utterly preposterous goal-scoring pace through the first nine games of the season, and could be well on their way to another major record by the end of the campaign.

They have scored an utterly absurd 39 goals so far, averaging an outrageous 4.3 goals per game. If they keep that pace up through the course of the entire 38-game season, they would score an unthinkable 163 goals by the end of the campaign.

That would smash the current record for goals in a La Liga season, held by Real Madrid in the 2011/12 top-flight. Los Blancos bagged 121 goals that season, led by Cristiano Ronaldo with 46 plus the combined 43 from Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema.

The most goals Barcelona have ever scored in a La Liga season was 116 in the 2016/17 campaign, when they were led by 37 from Lionel Messi plus 41 combined by the duo of Luis Suarez and Neymar.
