Here are this week’s candidates for The Sporting News’ California high school football Player of the Week for Week Four (Sep. 18-20). Read up on the candidates below and vote as many times as you’d like before 11:59 p.m. Saturday. The results will be announced in the following days.

Top stars, individual performances from Week Four of California high school football

Zion Anderson, Long Beach Poly: Anderson recorded three receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns plus a fumble recovery in a 56-7 blowout of Jordan (Long Beach).

Demani Bell, Westlake: Bell turned nine carries and two catches into 123 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, 92 receiving yards, and two touchdowns catches in a 41-6 demolition of Venice.

Zachary Benitez, Granite Hills (El Cajon): Benitez nearly led the Eagles to an upset of Los Alamitos before falling 49-42. He completed 34 of 45 passes (75.6%) for three touchdowns and 423 yards to one pick and ran for two touchdowns as well.

Jonah Bertoli, Cardinal Newman: Bertoli totaled six tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a forced safety in a 39-7 rout of Bishop O’Dowd.

Dillon Booth, Crean Lutheran: Booth ran five times for 40 yards and two touchdowns, made seven catches for 136 yards, and blocked a punt in a 38-14 win against La Serna.

Mark Bowman, Mater Dei: Bowman accounted for five catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns from the tight end spot as Mater Dei won 27-24 against Bishop Gorman (NV), which at the time was the top-ranked team in the country.

Clark Cokley, JSerra: Cokley hauled in nine catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Lions to a 39-35 win against Leuzinger.

Isaac Cook, Cathedral Catholic: Cook reeled in six catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns as Cathedral Catholic crushed Helix 49-0.

Colin Creason, Los Alamitos: Creason guided Los Al to a 49-42 comeback win over Granite Hills (El Cajon) with two touchdowns apiece via both air and ground.

JR Cruz, Clovis North: Cruz went off for 222 yards and three touchdowns as the Broncos defeated San Ramon Valley 43-14.

James Curoso, Clovis: Curoso starred on both sides of the ball in a 35-0 beatdown of Bullard. He ran for 174 yards and two touchdowns while registering six tackles, two TFLs, and a sack. 

Grayson Doslak, Los Gatos: Doslak ran for 74 yards and four touchdowns as Los Gatos thrashed Burlingame 49-0.

Isaiah Ene, Granite Bay: Ene lifted the Grizzlies past Jesuit 31-20 with 133 yards and three touchdowns rushing.

Trey Freking, South Pasadena: Freking was unstoppable as South Pasadena edged out Franklin (Los Angeles) 42-35, racking up 35 carries for 288 yards and four touchdowns.

Ford Green, Westlake: The freshman signal caller completed 17 of 24 passes for 301 yards and five touchdowns to one interception as Westlake blew out Venice 41-6.

Dezmyn Hardy, Calabasas: Hardy grabbed 11 receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns as Calabasas defeated Birmingham 49-28.

Dominik Hardy, Calabasas: Hardy led Calabasas to a 49-28 win against Birmingham by completing 21 of 29 passes for 300 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions with a rushing touchdown as well.

Bayon Harris, Central East: Harris helped lead Central East past Liberty (Bakersfield) 35-33 with six catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns.

Coby Herman, La Costa Canyon: Herman helped lead the Mavericks to a 45-24 win over Murrieta Mesa with 92 yards and one touchdown rushing plus five catches for 104 yards and another touchdown.

Timmy Herr, San Juan Hills: Herr dominated in a 38-28 win over Mira Costa with 260 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions on 21-24 completion (87.5%) plus 82 yards and two touchdowns rushing.

Ryan Hopkins, Mater Dei: Hopkins helped the Monarchs knock off the top-ranked team in the country, Bishop Gorman (NV), by completing 15 of 18 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns to one interception and running eight times for 67 more yards.

Zastice Jauregui, Garfield: Jauregui turned just four carries in to 185 yards and four touchdowns as Garfield walloped Legacy 37-6.

Relando Jefferson, Clovis West: Jefferson made a 96-yard interception-return touchdown plus a touchdown catch in a 54-7 rout of Turlock.

Diego Montes, Kennedy (Granada Hills): Montes completed eight of 13 passes for 211 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions and added 28 yards and one touchdown rushing as the Cougars routed Van Nuys 40-10.

Steven Morfoot, Sonora (Sonora): Morfoot pulled off a 99-yard pick-six and made three catches for 54 yards as Sonora blew out Escalon 49-14.

Braylen Morgan, Birmingham: Despite losing 49-28 to Calabasas, Morgan ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns.

Brady Palmer, Cathedral Catholic: Palmer was impeccable in a 49-0 dismantling of Helix, completing 14 of 17 passes for 320 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions while adding three carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Malakai Pathoumnourack, Cardinal Newman: Pathoumnourack racked up 161 yards and four touchdowns rushing plus three catches for 31 yards as Cardinal Newman blew out Bishop O’Dowd 39-7.

Ryan Rakowski, Palos Verdes: Rakowski completed 10 of 11 passes for 220 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and ran four times for 59 yards and another touchdown in a 52-0 demolition of Banning (Wilmington).

Jackson Rex, San Clemente: Rex helped San Clemente to a 26-13 win over Chino Hills with five catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns, a tackle for loss, and two pass break-ups.

Finley Rivera, Acalanes: Rivera had seven catches for 140 yards and three touchdowns to go with an interception as the Dons blew out College Park 42-7.

Daylawn Reed, Serra (Gardena): Reed powered Serra past Oaks Christian 19-10 with 151 yards and two touchdowns rushing.

Zamar Reese, San Marcos (San Marcos): Reese led the Knights to a 35-7 rout of San Pasqual with seven carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns, four catches for 40 yards and a touchdown, and another touchdown via punt return.

Ryan Salcedo, Bishop Amat: Salcedo spearheaded a 32-3 victory over Upland with 144 yards and three touchdowns rushing.

Trevor Schneider, Chaparral: Schneider racked up 200 yards and one touchdown rushing as the Pumas pummeled Great Oak 64-14.

King Shelton, North (Torrance): Shelton lifted North past Carson 42-35 with seven catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns plus a rushing touchdown.

Elyjah Staples, Marquez: In a 55-12 beatdown of La Puente, Staples turned all four of his catches into touchdowns (and 192 receiving yards) while starring on defense too with 10 tackles, two sacks, and seven QB-hurries.

Jayden Steele, Franklin (Los Angeles): Steele did what he could in a 42-35 loss to South Pasadena, making nine catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

Jacob Taddi, Murrieta Valley: Taddi scored via both kickoff return and punt return in a 49-7 drubbing of M.L. King.

Jack Thomas, Palisades: Thomas completed 13 of 16 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-18 victory against El Camino Real.

Jeremiah Watson, Murrieta Valley: Watson scored all five of the Nighthawks’ touchdowns from scrimmage in a 49-7 demolition of M.L. King, rushing just seven times for 187 yards and four touchdowns and making a 20-yard touchdown catch too.

Dane Weber, Chaparral: The 4-star signal caller was both prolific and efficient in a 64-14 blowout of Great Oak. He completed 12 of 15 passes for 317 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions and ran just twice for 18 yards and two more touchdowns.
