With so many rumors floating around about Jonathan Taylor, the potential of the Indianapolis Colts trading away Josh Downs has flown a bit under the radar.

But with the high cost of Taylor, a Downs trade is significantly more likely. That’s especially the case after a new report indicates the Colts already have a solid offer on the table.

According to ESPN’s Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter, the Colts have a fourth-round pick offer on the table for Downs, which would be a solid return for the fourth-year WR.

Colts reportedly have a fourth-round pick offer on the table for Josh Downs

“Indianapolis has told other teams that it has received an offer of a fourth-round pick for wide receiver Josh Downs, who requested to be traded in the final year of his contract,” Schefter and Rapoport report.

This is a noteworthy update, as the Colts seemingly have a good offer on the table for a rental WR in Downs this season.

While Indianapolis might want a third-round pick for Downs, that was never likely to happen. But if the Colts have a fourth-rounder on the table, it would be a worthwhile return.

It’s not nearly as exciting as a Day 2 pick, but a fourth-round selection is still very valuable. Compared to what Downs could fetch in the compensatory pick game, a fourth-rounder is more than worth trading him away this season.

As the Colts have already dealt Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, they should have no reservations about trading Downs.

The Colts likely won’t make a trade until the trade deadline, with the hope that a contender in desperate need of a WR will make a better offer.

But if the Colts still have that offer on the table, it would be a quality return for a rental receiver who’s not had a 1,000-yard season in his NFL career through four seasons.

Will the Colts accept that fourth-round offer? It’s very possible. With the Colts in clear selling mode, Downs for a fourth-round pick would be a very worthwhile trade to make.
