The Dallas Cowboys are in freefall after their 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8 of the NFL season. Now, this team is 3-5 and in a pinch to turn things around quickly.
So, what’s a team to do? Owner and general manager Jerry Jones is known for making big moves before the trade deadline, so it’s certainly not a far-fetched idea. The NFL trade deadline is coming up on Nov. 10, so now is the time for Jones to make one of his famous splashy moves.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano have released a piece with some of the latest talk around the NFL ahead of the trade deadline.
Dallas Cowboys could target Cardinals star Josh Sweat before trade deadline
In the piece, Fowler links the Cowboys to a star edge rusher. It’s not a totally crazy idea, of course, since that’s one position the Cowboys have had their eye on for a long time.
“Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat has been linked to Dallas, which could be in the pass rush market but hasn’t made any moves there yet,” Fowler says. “The sense I get from teams in the edge rusher market is that Sweat would prefer a new deal as part of a trade — or at least a sweetener, such as a raise on his $18.1 million salary this year or next.”
He adds, “He’s in the second year of a four-year, $76 million contract, so wanting it reworked so early in the deal could be a hurdle to a trade.”
It’s not Maxx Crosby, but the Cowboys could make a move for another star edge rusher before too long.
