The New York Giants are having a surprisingly good 2026 season, especially considering Jaxson Dart went down with an injury very early this season.
The Giants have dealt with a lot of injury issues with key players, but their backups and a few other key offseason additions have really stepped up so far. One of their most important players of the year is star cornerback Greg Newsome.
He’s been very impressive, and according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants have rewarded the veteran cornerback with a huge $46 million extension coming out of the team’s Week 8 bye.
Giants to sign Greg Newsome to $46 million contract extension
“Sources: Giants and CB Greg Newsome have agreed to a 3-yr $46 million extension with $32m guaranteed,” Schultz reports.
This massive new extension for Newsome comes in the middle of his one-year contract, which he signed this past offseason after spending time with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Giants are locking up Newsome for the next three years, and it comes amid a very impressive season for the sixth-year cornerback.

Newsome has played in six games this season and has been targeted 29 times. He has one interception and a passer rating allowed of just 61.4, which is the best mark of his NFL career.
New York’s defense this season has impressed despite trading Dexter Lawrence and losing Brian Burns and Tremaine Edmunds to season-ending injuries.
One of the biggest reasons is their great cornerback play, with Newsome’s strong season so far a huge factor in the Giants’ NFC East-leading 4-2-1 record.
John Harbaugh’s Giants are coming out of the bye week with a lot of optimism, and now a new contract for the veteran cornerback who was drafted in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Browns.
