Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis has had a tough time in his second season with the Buffaloes, and now faces what could be a serious health issue.

Lewis’ family announced that the sophomore had to be hospitalized on Wednesday after experiencing a health issue on campus. Lewis was not serving as the Buffaloes’ starting quarterback after he got benched earlier in the season, and the team has not yet given any details about his issue.

Lewis was a five-star recruit for Colorado last year and spent much of last season as a backup before taking over as the starter to begin this year. However, Lewis has struggled a bit, leading coach Deion Sanders to go in a different direction lately.

Here’s the latest on Lewis’ health status.

Julian Lewis health updates

After going to the hospital to get checked for a medical emergency, Lewis is currently recovering. The quarterback had a health issue come up on Wednesday in Boulder, but it’s unclear if it was football-related or not.

Colorado listed Lewis as doubtful to play in Saturday’s game against Kansas State, but the injury report did not say what the health issue was.

What happened to Julian Lewis?

Lewis was hospitalized on Wednesday after suffering a “medical emergency” at the University of Colorado, but is now in recovery.

“Yesterday, Julian experienced a medical emergency at the University of Colorado athletic facility and was promptly transported to the hospital,” Lewis’ father said. “He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates and Colorado fans for their prayers and support.”

What is a medical emergency?

It’s unclear exactly what Lewis’ medical issue was, but it was serious enough for him to go to the hospital for further evaluation. Lewis has played in four games this year after appearing in just four games last year, but was benched this season for performance reasons.
