Coming into the season, things were looking exciting for the Miami Heat after the team made several major moves during the offseason. Following a disappointing campaign that ended without a playoff appearance, Miami entered the season with a clear goal: win a championship or consider the season a failure.

The Heat pulled off a blockbuster trade over the summer, acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks.

“The Milwaukee Bucks are trading franchise icon Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including No. 13 in Tuesday’s NBA draft), one pick swap and one second-round pick, sources told ESPN. The Heat are sending to Milwaukee unprotected first-rounders in 2031 and 2033 along with No. 13, a pick swap in 2030 and a 2033 second-rounder, according to sources,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote.

However, the early results have been far from ideal. The Heat sit at 0-4, and Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo have yet to find their rhythm as a duo.

“The Giannis and Bam fit has looked horrible — Bam looks like he has no idea what to do on offense, they’re playing too fast for what they’re talent is, they bet on Klay who looks washed…Giannis isn’t the easiest guy to play with…the Jovic extension from last year is one of the dumbest extensions given out in the last 5 years — it’s been a disaster, he’s been unplayable…10 years ago you could’ve gotten away with Giannis and Bam as your two guys…I wouldn’t bet against them figuring this out, this bad as it can get,” Bill Simmons said.

With the pairing struggling, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus believes Miami should consider another blockbuster trade, sending Adebayo and Tim Hardaway Jr. to the New York Knicks in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns.

“The Miami Heat receive: Karl-Anthony Towns, $6.1 million trade exception (Tim Hardaway Jr.) The New York Knicks receive: Bam Adebayo, Tim Hardaway Jr,” Pincus wrote.

Such a deal would shake up the NBA, but it seems unlikely that Miami would give up on its new duo this early in the season. Sometimes, it takes time for star players to develop chemistry, and the Heat may need to give Antetokounmpo and Adebayo more time to figure things out.

Towns is currently playing under a $220 million contract with the Knicks. If the proposed trade were to happen, his offensive skill set could make him a more natural fit alongside Antetokounmpo. Unlike a traditional big man, Towns is a threat from beyond the three-point line, which could create more spacing for Antetokounmpo to attack the basket.
