The NBA season has officially been underway for a week, and there is already some beef brewing between two former teammates. Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum and Philadelphia 76ers star Jaylen Brown have been going at each other following the trade this summer.
Brown has been more vocal, while Tatum has tried to keep the situation out of the media. Brown, however, doesn’t hold back when asked about the situation.
“He’s got a great PR team. It’s no beef, but it might be a little lamb chop. And some gravy. He should stay ready at all times,” Brown said.
It has been an interesting situation to watch unfold over the past week. Brown’s exit from Boston was reportedly messy. Brian Scalabrine, a former Celtics NBA champion and current announcer, reported that Brown had a list of ultimatums before being traded.
“My understanding is Jaylen Brown went to the organization and had a list of demands. And it was like, ‘You either do this or you trade me,'” Scalabrine said.
It didn’t stop there for Scalabrine, as he went after Brown again, this time accusing him of playing the victim in the situation.
“Jaylen Brown wants to be the victim in all of this, and this is the way he’s doing it now. He’s using me, or his PR team, or whatever it is, to play the victim, and he’s not going to take responsibility for it. That’s fine…I just feel like he wants to say whatever he wants, and he doesn’t want to be held accountable, just like on his Twitch. He wants his legacy to remain intact, and he’s not going to take responsibility for the other stuff that he brings up. And this is just the beginning of it,” Scalabrine said.
Obviously, those within the Celtics organization and affiliated with the team are going to defend Tatum. Based on what is known, Brown’s time in Boston may have been soured after a potential trade involving the Milwaukee Bucks fell through.
If Brown did give the organization a list of demands, he had every right to do so. If a team had tried to trade you for two consecutive years, Brown would have been smart to make his expectations clear before moving forward. It isn’t him playing the victim; it’s him telling his side of the story.
