The Timberwolves are off to a stellar start, only narrowly falling short of a fourth consecutive win on Monday night, but they are reeling after the news that star Anthony Edwards will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery.
Edwards was off to a hot start himself with a pair of 40-point games, including a 47-point outburst against the Cavaliers on Monday.
The Timberwolves’ dream of an Edwards-LaMelo Ball offensive duo, which showed real promise in the season’s first four games, is now on hold for an extended period.
Here’s what you need to know about Edwards’ return timeline.
How long is Anthony Edwards out?
Edwards will miss up to two months as he undergoes arthroscopic surgery, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The Timberwolves view the decision to have surgery “as a way to get it addressed as soon as possible,” with the hope he will be back to full health “sometime in December,” The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski reported.

The news comes after Edwards played through knee soreness on Monday, scoring 47 points in an overtime loss.
The Timberwolves, 3-1, will have to rely more heavily on Ball in the meantime, with Ayo Dosunmu among the players who will have to step up in Edwards’ absence.
