The Detroit Lions just won another game, bringing their record to 4-2 and helping their case in the NFC North rankings. Looking at the quarterbacks in the NFL, the guys who usually get the press are the big names like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Brock Purdy. But you may want to add Jared Goff to that tally.

Following the team’s 20-17 win over the Packers, Goff is getting a lot of attention. For six games with the Lions, Goff has notched 150 completions on 223 attempts, and his passer rating of 112.5 is No. 2 in the NFL, only behind Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Those are MVP numbers.

Jared Goff emerges as a sleeper MVP candidate as Lions quarterback puts up impressive numbers

In a feature released for ESPN on Tuesday, Ben Solak makes the case that Goff is a sleeper MVP candidate.

He admits that “Goff is far from a favorite at this stage, and rightfully so,” with players like Burrow “throwing the ball on every down.” So, he says that if you’re “making me guess today who will actually win the award at the end of the season, I think I’d take Burrow.”

He adds, “But if the question is which player could emerge from the void of hype-less-ness and become a favorite by December, Goff seems like the obvious choice.”

He also says that on pure pass attempts, Goff has an 82.2 EPA. The next quarterback is far behind, with the Jaguars‘ Trevor Lawrence second at 59.6.

So, if the Lions keep winning, and that could happen, Goff could really emerge as a special talent who could surprise the NFL come the end of the year.
