On Sunday night, the Detroit Pistons are set to take on the Philadelphia 76ers, in a match that will see one of the two unbeaten teams have their stellar records come to an end. The match was already going to be difficult for Philadelphia, as they’re set to be without Joel Embiid due to injury management, as well as the possibility of VJ Edgecombe missing the match due to an abdominal contusion.

But the Pistons were no better, as Jalen Duren was already set to miss out due to a right hamstring strain, but it appears that they’ve lost another one of their key players: Ausar Thompson.

Thompson to sit out vs. Sixers

According to the NBA’s injury report, Thompson will miss the match against Philadelphia due to a right ankle sprain. His status shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given that he was listed as “questionable” in the hours leading up to tip-off, but he’ll be a certain miss for JB Bickerstaff given his fairweather numbers so far, averaging 7.5 points and seven assists in the opening two games.

In his place, the aforementioned Bickerstaff has the likes of Duncan Robinson and Isiah Joe, amongst others, to choose from. It’ll be an interesting match for Joe if he is to receive additional playing time, given that he used to play in the City of Brotherly Love, making 96 appearances for the Sixers, the team that drafted him in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft.

Tip-off between Detroit and Philadelphia is slated for 7:00 p.m. EST.
