With Jalen Hurts out for the season after being diagnosed with blood clots, many wondered how the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles allowed him to play in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hurts was diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his calf before that game, but the quarterback was cleared to fly to London and play anyway. Later in the week, doctors found that Hurts’ blood clots were more serious than they initially thought, leading to Hurts being shut down for the entire season as he approaches recovery.

The NFL cleared the Eagles of any wrongdoing, but that wasn’t satisfactory for some people. Among those interested in finding out what happened before the London game is the NFLPA, which called for a deeper investigation into the matter.

Now, the NFL and NFLPA have released a statement regarding Hurts’ situation. Here’s the latest update.

NFL, NFLPA statement on Jalen Hurts blood clot situation

On Sunday morning, the NFL and NFLPA released a joint statement announcing that they are investigating why Hurts played in London.

“The NFL and NFL Players Association are working together to review the matter,” the two sides said.

This comes just days after the NFLPA publicly called for the NFL to open an investigation into the matter.

“Before conclusions are drawn about how this situation was handled, there must be a full investigation into what occurred,” the NFLPA said. “Determining the facts is essential to ensuring players receive the highest level of care and protection going forward.”

When asked about the NFLPA’s concern over Hurts, Roger Goodell said he was satisfied with the way all sides handled the quarterback in London.

“I think our protocols were incredibly good there,” he said.

If there were any breaches in protocol during Hurts’ medical evaluation, this review should find them.
