Excitement is building in the nation’s capital. For the first time in a while, the Wizards are the source of that sentiment.

Armed with Trae Young, Anthony Davis, Kyshawn George, Alex Sarr and first overall pick AJ Dybantsa, Washington appears poised to be far more competitive than it has in recent years.

Many onlookers have suggested that Dybantsa will be the headliner of that group once he gets up to speed. The BYU product enters the NBA with a glistening reputation, having forged a distinctive scoring flair like few others during his brief spell in college.

Dybantsa looks to be a star in the making. He hasn’t quite gotten a chance to flaunt his skillset yet this year, however — the 19-year-old is yet to make his NBA debut due to injury.

Based on the Wizards’ latest announcement, he won’t get the chance to do so during Saturday’s matchup against the Bulls, either.

Here’s what you need to know.

Wizards drop disappointing AJ Dybantsa injury update

The Wizards released their injury report ahead of Saturday’s tilt with the Bulls. The three-man list featured a familiar name — one that will undoubtedly frustrate Washington fans.

Dybantsa was ruled out of the contest, his left ankle sprain cutting him down for the third-straight game.

The No. 1 pick sustained his malady during the Wizards’ final preseason game, rolling his ankle after attempting a jump shot against the Pelicans. Head coach Brian Keefe said Dybantsa was considered day-to-day with his ailment. Washington enthusiasts were left optimistic with the team’s showing in its season-opening win vs. the Bucks, although the side fell back down to earth in a 10-point loss vs. Raptors on Friday.

Given Keefe’s declaration earlier in the week, it’s only a matter of time before Dybantsa gets the chance to shine in front of his home fans. Nevertheless, Wizards supporters certainly would have liked to see him a little earlier.
