Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has lots to be happy about with the team’s 3-1 start to the season and their spot at the top of the AFC North. He’s really proving his talent and showing that there’s no reason to boo him anymore. Not that there ever was, but we all know the story about Browns fans booing Watson during the preseasons, and those are now silent.
But that doesn’t mean Watson walks on water. The quarterback is getting punished by the NFL for actions he took in the team’s Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Deshaun Watson fined for unsportsmanlike conduct
The NFL has officially released its Week 4 punishments for holding players accountable for their actions during those games. “The NFL uses the fine schedule to outline the league’s and the union’s expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league,” they state.
The NFL is fining Watson $14,926 for unsportsmanlike conduct due to illegal celebrations and vulgar acts at 8:33 in the second quarter of the game. They’re also fining Quinshon Judkins $14,397 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The Judkins fine was kind of surprising because viewers didn’t really see Watson do anything wrong. But according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, “Nothing was obvious on the TV broadcast, but source said it was a ‘smoking’ gesture after Judkins’ TD last week.”
Now, the two will have to pay up. They can also appeal the fine, but considering how much these players make, unless it’s a really large one or seems grossly unfair, the players largely pay up.
