On Saturday, the U.S. women get set to stake their claim back to the top of the international rankings as they face the first of two international friendlies against No. 1-ranked Spain in the nation’s capital.

The U.S. women have spent most of the last five years ranked at No. 1 by FIFA, but struggles at the last Women’s World Cup — which Spain won — saw them dip in early 2024, and they again ceded the top spot back in the summer of 2025, and are yet to reclaim that position.

Spain took over as the No. 1 team in the aftermath of their 2023 Women’s World Cup triumph, and while they dropped to third in August of 2024, they reclaimed the top spot back in August of 2025 and have not dipped since.

This represents the first meeting between the top two teams in the FIFA rankings since Spain’s UEFA Nations League final against France two years ago.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the weekly schedule.
