  • Zak Brown pulls up in £1.75M hypercar as McLaren’s fastest road car stuns Silverstone

An unmistakable silhouette of a McLaren Speedtail cut through the Friday morning of the 2025 British Grand Prix. Piloted by the McLaren Racing CEO himself, Zak Brown, photographers were quick to snap his beaming smile as he pulled himself out of the fastest road car McLaren has ever produced.

The teardrop-shaped hypercar, valued at £1.75 million, is the Papaya brand’s answer to the likes of the Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg Agera. While it’s not as fast as those examples, it still reaches 250 mph thanks to a staggering level of power and aerodynamic mastery. 1,036 horsepower is created from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 mated to an electric motor, but its shape is most important in its quest for speed.

The teardrop shape is used to reduce drag. As are the carbon fibre wheel covers on the front wheels and the flexible carbon fibre rear spoilers that actively bend and adjust to optimise airflow and downforce across the car’s surfaces.

Velocity Mode creates an even more efficient road car by lowering the chassis by 35 mm, retracting the side-view cameras, and optimising the hybrid powertrain for top speed. Plant the throttle from the central driving position, and force your eyes to stay open as it accelerates to 300 kph in just 12.8 seconds.

I’d too be smiling if I were Zak Brown. Especially as the McLaren F1 team is seeing such success so far this season. Oscar Piastri is leading the drivers’ standings, followed by Lando Norris just 15 points behind, and the team sits 207 points clear of Ferrari, leading the constructors’ standings.

With further upgrades coming this weekend in the shape of a new floor and revised rear corner inlets, McLaren is expected to continue its season’s dominance at the iconic British circuit.

“It’s a season that so far has gone beyond expectation, let me say,” Stella said at a McLaren event in London earlier this week. “We’ve certainly been very, very competitive, eight victories.

“We have just upgraded the car in Austria. There will be further upgrades coming. We want to continue with this kind of momentum and give our fans more reasons to be proud of being a Papaya fan.”
