  • Red Bull pokes fun after Yuki Tsunoda loses phone in Lake Como

Yuki Tsunoda has confessed to losing his phone in Lake Como, and Red Bull has taken the opportunity to poke fun at the Japanese driver’s blunder.

Prior to the Formula 1 summer break, the drivers and teams have the chance to enjoy two weeks between the British Grand Prix and the Belgian Grand Prix. Tsunoda, who joined Red Bull ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix earlier this year, had been in Italy during the downtime.

“On a completely unrelated topic, if anyone finds a phone while swimming in Lake Como, lemme know,” Tsunoda posted to his Instagram story.

Red Bull shared a tongue-in-cheek plea to its fanbase. “If you’re in the Lake Como area, please help Yuki find his phone,” the Milton Keynes outfit wrote, followed by a map marked “Jason Statham’s Son” with his phone’s location marked in the lake.

Tsunoda met Statham ahead of the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The then-AlphaTauri driver’s performance coach Michael Italiano outed Tsunoda as a superfan in front of the actor, confirming that the driver had changed his iPhone Airdrop name to ‘Jason Statham’s son.’

“You should tell him. You know what you should do? You should bluetooth him something. So you can see it,” Italiano said at the time of the meeting.

“Yuki’s got a confession to tell you. His Airdrop name, so you know how you can personalise your Airdrop name on your iPhone. So usually you put your initial or something. Do you want me to share what your Airdrop name is?

“His Airdrop name, this is a true story, is ‘Jason Statham’s son’. That’s his Airdrop name. Every time his phone connects to the car, it says ‘connected to Jason Statham’s son’.”

Tsunoda replaced Liam Lawson at Red Bull after just two race weekends of the 2025 season. But, with difficulties with the RB21, Tsunoda is yet to find his desired performance. He currently sits 17th in the drivers’ standings with 10 points.

Red Bull has slipped to fourth in the constructors’ standings with 172 points, 288 points behind leaders McLaren.
