  • Isack Hadjar presented with new Dutch GP trophy after Zandvoort celebrations blunder

Racing Bulls Formula 1 driver Isack Hadjar has been presented with his replacement Dutch Grand Prix trophy.

The French-Algerian driver secured his first F1 podium with a third-place finish at Zandvoort. But his celebrations took a turn when he accidentally broke the handmade trophy in two during the excitement.

Luckily for Hadjar, a spare hand-painted trophy was available and has now been delivered to him. The trophies were painted by Dutch designers and master painters with a floral Delft Blue design.

Sporting director of the Dutch Grand Prix, Jan Lammers, commented on the trophies ahead of the race at Zandvoort.

“Once again, the trophies are based on the design that was created in 1939. At that time, the race in Zandvoort was not yet held on the circuit as we know it today.

“Zandvoort was still a street circuit back then. Just like the 2021, 2023 and 2024 editions, the shape of the trophy has been developed by Studio Piet Boon. When you see the trophies, we can be more than proud of the result.”

Although the 20-year-old driver now has the complete trophy, he revealed to the media yesterday that he was keen to have the original one returned to him.

“I don’t even know where my trophy is, my broken trophy,” he explained. “I mean, the team is taking care of it, I guess. I left it in good hands. Both parts. But I don’t know what’s going on.

“But I get a new one, I know that. But I want my broken one,” he added firmly.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, Hadjar tempered expectations following his success at Zandvoort. While he was faster than Ferrari and Mercedes last week, he doesn’t think that trend will continue at Monza.

“Yes, we won’t be faster than them this weekend,” he explained. “Zandvoort was suiting us perfectly and was still perusing on why we were that good. But yeah, it’s a good question.”

Hadjar’s third-place finish at Zandvoort saw him move up to 10th in the drivers’ standings with 37 points.
