We are officially in the month of July, where trades will be made and teams will attempt to make a push for the postseason or possibly punt until next season.

In a Fansided article from Mark Powell, Powell named a player from all 30 MLB teams that is the leading trade candidate. Powell quotes a team writer for each team in his story.

For the Houston Astros, Powell listed High-A pitcher Anderson Brito as the most likely player the Astros will give away at the deadline on July 31, quoting Stephen Parello of Climbing Tal’s Hill.

“It will all depend on what their trading partners want, but AJ Blubaugh, despite his 6.97 ERA at Triple-A Sugar Land, or Hi-A strikeout artist Anderson Brito, are the most likely to go. For the purposes of this exercise, we’ll pick Brito as the most likely to be traded, given his ceiling as well as his distance from making a big league impact,” Parello wrote.

The Astros are in prime position to go on a postseason run. Houston sits at 51-34 and in second place in the AL. There have been reports that the Astros will hold out at the deadline rather than buying.

If the Astros do hold out and do not buy any notable players, Brito could serve as a solid prospect for a team looking to strengthen its farm system.

In 27 appearances in the minor leagues, Brito has a 4-3 record and an ERA of 2.36 with 147 strikeouts. So far in 2025, he has appeared in 12 games with a 0-1 record and a 3.28 ERA in 49.1 innings of work.
