The F1 movie is just around the corner and it’s shaping up to be one of the most ambitious motorsport projects to make it out of Hollywood. But for Brad Pitt, who has loved every second of filming, the question is how he can fill the void now there’s no need to step behind the wheel of a racing car.
Speaking with then-Formula 1 reporter Will Buxton ahead of the final day of filming at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Pitt admitted he didn’t know “where I go from here”.
“Tonight’s my last drive for the film. I may get a little misty about it… Stick around, you may see some tears. It’s been a hell of an experience,” Pitt confessed in the recently published video.
The actor’s love for racing has been evident throughout the filming process.
“Like nothing else,” he said of the experience. “Like I don’t – I don’t know where I go from here. I gotta do something nice and quiet. Drama or something. Because you can’t compete with just this experience,” he said with a laugh.
“It’s almost like when we get to the acting scenes, you kind of go, ‘Uh… right, okay. Oh okay, no driving today.’”

When pressed by Buxton about whether he’d continue racing after his work on the film comes to an end, Pitt seemed fairly interested in the idea.
“You know, I thought about it. I mean, certainly in another universe, you know? You take these directions in life and it’s an interesting daydream of mine,” he admitted.
“[Paul] Newman started when he was 54 and just did it for himself and pure enjoyment of it. It’s not one of those things… but I need racecraft to be my next training. Because I still – just having that experience of defending or passing in the rain, or you know, that kind of thing.
“They [Patrick Dempsey and Michael Fassbender] love it. And I understand why. I really do.”
Pitt further confirmed that he will be getting back behind the wheel, one way or another.
“I don’t have words for it. The weekends here… the smell, the sound, the fervour of the excitement of the weekend. And then being in that is so singular. It’s the most singular thing I’ve ever been a part of,” he explained.
The movie sees Pitt star as Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver asked to return for the struggling APXGP team. Driving alongside team-mate Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the two are tasked with reviving the struggling outfit.
The F1 movie will be released globally on 25 June and two days later in the United States.
