Oscar Piastri’s mum shares wholesome Red Bull moment with Yuki Tsunoda: “Backing my boys!”

With the rise of Drive to Survive and expansive social media coverage from Formula 1, we’re treated to more and more moments that remind us of why we love racing. Such was the scene ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, where Nicole Piastri, mother of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, shared a heartwarming moment as she met Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda for the first time.

In a video posted to Red Bull’s social media channels, Piastri visited the Red Bull hospitality between supporting her son, to meet Tsunoda, who many now joke has become an adopted member of the Piastri family. 

“I don’t want to get you in trouble,” Tsunoda joked as he signed a Red Bull hat for her with a smile. 

Piastri, who has become a beloved part of the paddock with her popular X (formerly Twitter) posts often gaining plenty of traction, was equally as lovely as she complimented the Japanese driver. 

“I just think you are fantastic. I think you’re a really good person,” she said before she joked: “Thank you so much, good luck for the race. Backing my boys.”

The relationship between the two began during the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, where Piastri’s son claimed he wanted to find his “Monegasque” roots. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc quickly reacted, offering to “adopt” him. 

“I mean, we are family,” Leclerc said ahead of the Monaco race. “So starting on the front row both of us will have a meeting with my mum tonight and I’m sure she will calm us down and hopefully I can get through Turn 1 in the first position and Oscar in the second place. But yeah, let’s see. Obviously I think… [to Carlos] Do you want me to adopt you as well? Don’t be jealous, Carlos.”

Posting to X, Piastri then shared what would become one of her most memorable posts. 

“It appears there’s a vacancy for a son in my family, @yukitsunoda07?”

The post went viral, and fans of the championship haven’t forgotten. 

“Mama Piastri is very sweet, I love this woman’s energy!” one commenter responded to Red Bull’s video. 

“Love love this so much!! Nicole is Yuki’s biggest fan (besides Oscar),” another added while a third joked: “She’s a Yuki fan first, Oscar’s mom second.”
