The New York Jets have been without Breece Hall for a few weeks now, and Braelon Allen has been taking over the backfield in his absence.
While he’s been great in this new role, the Jets still really need to get Hall back. He’s a dual-threat running back who would form a great duo with Allen if both are healthy, which, based on the practice reports this week, seemed like it could be Week 7.
However, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets got some bad news on Hall Sunday morning. Unfortunately, Hall is “unlikely” to play in Week 7, with a Week 8 return seeming a lot more likely for the star running back.
Jets unlikely to get Breece Hall back for Week 7
“Jets star RB Breece Hall, attempting to return from a quad strain after missing three games, is unlikely to play today, sources say,” Rapoport reports. “He may work out to see if he can go, but Hall hasn’t been a full participant yet. It’s a bit early.”
While Hall’s practice participation this week leading up to Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins was an encouraging sign, it apparently wasn’t enough.
The Jets have no reason to rush Hall back, especially with how good Allen’s played in his absence. But with this matchup against the Dolphins on tap, it could’ve been quite the game to come back from injury for Hall.

His quad issue has kept him out the previous three weeks, and with this report from Rapoport, it appears he’s in line to miss a fourth.
If he is ruled out for this Dolphins matchup, then Hall will have missed the same time as if he were placed on injured reserve. Avoiding it in the moment was a good thing for the Jets, but his absence might end up being the same as if he landed on IR in the first place.
Hall could end up paying in Week 7, as the Jets have not officially ruled him out. But, based on this update from Rapoport, it’s looking unlikely that the Jets will have their No. 1 RB back on the field for their seventh game of the season against the 0-5 Dolphins.
