The Miami Dolphins are working with a strict budget this season, as the major cap hits from released veterans like Tua Tagovailoa and Bradley Chubb are taking up a huge chunk of their books.
Over the next two seasons, they have over $100 million in dead cap hits. So, with limited money at their disposal, picking up cheap, young talent is always a good idea. And recently, they did just that.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have claimed former Penn State rookie running back Kaytron Allen, drafted in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, from the Washington Commanders after his recent release.
Dolphins claim Kaytron Allen off waivers from Commanders
“Source: Former Commanders RB Kaytron Allen was claimed today on waivers by the Miami Dolphins,” Schefter reports.
This decision from the Dolphins should come as little surprise. Recently, they lost De’Von Achane for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury. The Dolphins need running back depth.
Ollie Gordon II is a decent No. 1 option, and Jaylen Wright isn’t bad depth. But with Wright a bit banged up, and their other RB options not being great, adding Allen makes a lot of sense.

The former Penn State rookie running back impressed at college, running for 1,303 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Nittany Lions last season. He was then selected at pick No. 187 in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Commanders.
But after just four games, the Commanders released Allen, and the Dolphins are now the beneficiaries of that decision.
Allen will now join the Dolphins’ 53-man roster and provide some quality depth in the backfield for a Dolphins team that needs all the help they can get.
