The Los Angeles Chargers are heading into Week 5 against the Denver Broncos with a 0-4 record, and in desperate need of a victory to keep any playoff hopes alive.

If they lose in Week 5, their season, at 0-5, would practically be over. A lot is at stake for the Chargers, so Justin Herbert is going to need to be playing at his best. Unfortunately, he might be down Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston.

With Herbert potentially in for a rough time Sunday against the Broncos, he has a chance to make some Chargers franchise history. According to ESPN Research, if Herbert throws one interception, he will extend a dubious INT streak that was last seen 10 years ago.

Justin Herbert is one INT from making Chargers history

“Chargers QB Justin Herbert has thrown an interception in five straight games,” ESPN Research shared. “This is the longest active streak in the NFL, and one shy of the longest streak by a Chargers QB since Phillip Rivers had eight straight in 2016-2017.”

Herbert, who’s thrown a total of six interceptions this season to just four touchdowns and 816 passing yards, is one interception shy of making some Chargers history.

While he wouldn’t break the Chargers record for most consecutive games throwing an interception, he’d have set a mark Chargers fans haven’t seen in a decade.

In Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks, Herbert threw two interceptions, and with four more the previous three weeks, he’s well beyond his normal interception pace.

This week he faces the Denver Broncos. Normally, this would be a dangerous matchup. But Patrick Surtain II and Riley Moss are both out for this matchup. That makes things a lot easier for Herbert.

However, Herbert might be down both McConkey and Johnston, leaving Tre’ Harris as the clear No. 1 target, with a likely heavy focus on the running back trio and the tight end room to help make up for the major losses on offense.

The offensive line is banged up, down both starting tackles, and Herbert might be without a few of his best receivers. This could be an ugly week against a tough Broncos defense, even without Surtain or Moss in there.

Herbert is one interception away from making Chargers history with the longest streak of games with an interception. While he’s got a ways to go to catch Rivers’ streak of eight straight games with a pick a decade ago, he’s already over halfway there.
