Entering Week 5, we have a better sense of which teams might be sellers at the NFL trade deadline. Teams like the Los Angeles Chargers seem to be at the top of that list, as Los Angeles currently sits at 0-4 and isn’t playing the kind of football expected entering the year.
While other teams in the NFL have been playing well, keeping tabs on squads like the Chargers will be interesting over the next couple of weeks.
For the San Francisco 49ers, that’s exactly what they might need to ensure they get the type of players they want at the deadline. San Francisco can improve in multiple ways, including getting to the quarterback.
When San Francisco plays its best football, it typically gets to the quarterback at an above-average level.
Unfortunately, some of these injuries have been a problem, which could lead the 49ers to make a trade for someone like Khalil Mack, as was recently floated.
“Their pass rush is almost as nonexistent as it was last season,” Jose Sanchez wrote. “That’s going to remain with Nick Bosa out, which should coerce the 49ers into making a trade. And the trade to execute is for Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack.”
Mack is much older at this stage of his career, now 35 after being a prized prospect coming into the league and living up to the hype. He’s excelled at getting to the quarterback in recent years, including posting 17.0 sacks in 2023. He’s impressed early on, posting three sacks for Los Angeles.
