This offseason should be a very busy one for the Houston Astros.

Houston’s GM and manager for 2027 are undecided, as the organization is in a transitional state.

The AL West club suffered an early exit in the Wild Card Series, and the offense needs more firepower around MVP favorite Yordan Alvarez.

Not to mention, the pitching staff could also use upgrades.

An impending free agent from the Astros who has spent their entire career in Houston could depart this winter.

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter predicts that right-handed reliever Bryan Abreu will switch teams.

“A multi-year deal awaits from a contender confident it can dial in his command, while Miguel Ullola gives Houston a potential replacement in high-leverage spots,” Reuter wrote about Abreu.

Abreu helped the Astros win the World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022, posting a 1.94 ERA while averaging 13.1 strikeouts per nine innings in 55 appearances.

He had a few more strong years afterward, but his walk rate has become somewhat of an issue.

“Even in what was statistically the worst season of his career, Abreu still posted a 3.73 ERA with nine saves and 16 holds in 66 appearances,” Reuter added. “His 29.9 percent strikeout rate was still elite, but it was accompanied by a 15.3 percent walk rate.”

With a high-90s fastball and 33.85 WHIFF rate, there’s reason to believe Abreu can quickly return to dominant form out of the bullpen.

However, Reuter is predicting it won’t happen in Houston.
