The New York Knicks are coming off their first NBA championship in a very long time after taking down the San Antonio Spurs this past summer. The series included some big comebacks from the Knicks, showing their resilience.

New York was able to get the championship hump off their back by winning it all. For Jalen Brunson, it is about not getting comfortable.

“It will be the same. It’s something that I get to walk around with and think about when I’m — when I need to give myself a little confidence, or whatever, just in certain situations. But my approach and everything has to be the same. Just because I’ve reached the mountaintop of winning an NBA championship doesn’t mean that it’s over with. I feel like there’s still a lot more to do and a lot more that I can prove. It’s 100 percent always going to be in the mind, I’m just not going to let it define me,” Brunson said.

Speaking of Brunson, he is set to get a massive contract extension. The Athletic’s Fred Katz believes he can get an extension worth $290 million.

“In 2028-29, Jalen Brunson’s new contract will begin,” Katz wrote. “All signs point to the NBA Finals MVP earning a significant raise, a projected $290 million over four years.”

This would be a huge deal for Brunson, as his last extension saw him take a huge pay cut to help out the Knicks.

“The deal, which begins in 2025-26 and will cost Brunson $37.1 million over the next three years, comes with a fourth-year player option, Rose said, and that would set up Brunson to recoup the $113 million on a four-year, $323 million maximum extension in 2028 or a new five-year, $418 million deal in 2029,” Former ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski wrote.

There is no doubt that something will get done, and that is a good chunk of money for Brunson, who wants to stay in New York for his career. The point guard was an absolute star in the Finals.

The Knicks are starting to get to the point where they are going to have to figure out some financials to keep their team together. However, they are going to give their franchise guy whatever he wants.
