The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 4 matchup while dealing with multiple key players not at 100%, including wide receiver Mike Evans.

While he’s pushing to play in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos, the 49ers have reportedly made a few roster moves that might not bode well for his status this weekend.

According to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, the 49ers have signed veteran WR Brandin Cooks to the 53-man roster and added Malik Turner to the practice squad, all as injury concerns about Evans grow.

49ers make two WR roster moves amid Mike Evans injury concern

“49ers signed WR Brandin Cooks to the 53-man roster. They have brought WR Malik Turner back to the practice squad to take his place there,” Wagoner reported.

These two roster moves are noteworthy, as they reveal the 49ers are showing some concern about their WR room. Another move the 49ers made this week was the release of KhaDarel Hodge, who was dealing with a knee injury.

While Cooks’ addition to the 53-man roster doesn’t necessarily mean that Evans is going to be out in Week 4 against the Broncos, it’s not exactly a good sign that they’re making such an aggressive WR roster move on Thursday.

Wagoner also reported that Evans, alongside Dre Greenlaw and Keion White, were “working on the side” of practice on Thursday while “not participating in practice.”

While it’s a good sign that Evans isn’t completely absent from practice on Thursday, this is a concerning update for the 49ers’ wide receiver ahead of Week 4.

Combining Wagoner’s report on Evans’ practice participation with the addition of Cooks to the 53-man roster, it appears the 49ers might be preparing for a possible Week 4 scenario with Evans sidelined.

This is a situation 49ers fans should closely monitor on Friday, during the last practice before Week 4. The signs aren’t looking good for Evans, especially with this Cooks roster move Thursday afternoon.
