New York Mets first baseman Jared Young had a scary collision with right-hander Nolan McLean in September.

Young and McLean collided at first base, leaving Young unconscious.

The incident kept him out for the rest of the regular season, but the 31-year-old has progressed nicely in the last few weeks.

According to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, Young suffered a concussion on the play and is dealing with neck and ear issues.

“How quick baseball can turn into life,” Young told DiComo. “It was a scary thing, but it’s real. I cared about getting a hit that morning. I wanted to win that game, and I wanted to hit a home run and celebrate with my teammates. Very quickly did [that change to] I just wanted to get home.”

Young told DiComo that he expects to be ready for the start of Spring Training in February.

He played a career-high 103 games in 2026, hitting nine home runs with a .759 OPS across 342 plate appearances.

The Mets turned to multiple players to replace Pete Alonso at first base, including Young.

Jorge Polanco, signed to take over first base duties, was limited to 37 games and underwent season-ending ankle surgery.

Mark Vientos broke his hand near the All-Star break and didn’t return until the end of August.
