The Denver Broncos got some positive news on Monday afternoon on star cornerback Patrick Surtain II’s injury scare from Sunday. Surtain is expected to miss some time, but it shouldn’t be season-ending.

The initial report is Surtain is dealing with a pectoral injury and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year injured his pec against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday is considered week-to-week, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Broncos lose Patrick Surtain II to injury

The initial diagnosis for Surtain is a pec strain and he could land on injured reserve, according to Rapoport.

However, the Broncos star cornerback does not need surgery and will get a second opinion this week to confirm his timeline, according to Schultz.

While the Broncos continue to gather more opinions on Surtain’s injury, his timeline remains up in the air at this point.

If he indeed is out for 4-6 weeks, Surtain would return either following the Broncos’ Week 12 bye or Week 14 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Regardless, it will be a huge loss for the Broncos defense. Surtain had developed into one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, and was the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

Through his first four seasons in the league, Surtain had 11 interceptions and 47 passes defended. The former first round pick has over 250 career tackles, is a two-time All-Pro and has been to the Pro Bowl three times in his four years in the NFL.
