Bills Mafia will be rooting for their team to win on Sunday, as always.

But there’ll be just a little bit more appreciation in their hearts for the opposing quarterback than usual.

That’s because the Carolina Panthers‘ starting quarterback on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills is Andy Dalton.

And Dalton is something of a legendary folk hero in Western New York.

Why is Andy Dalton a Buffalo Bills folk hero?

Andy Dalton’s status in Buffalo stems from Week 17 of the 2017 season.

The Bills needed Dalton’s Bengals to beat the Baltimore Ravens to send Buffalo to the playoffs for the first time in 17 years.

Dalton threw a last-gasp touchdown pass for a Cincinnati win and a Bills playoff spot. It was a fourth-and-12, 49-yard touchdown to Tyler Boyd.

Bills fans donated more than $100,000 to the Andy & Jordan Dalton Foundation.

In return, Dalton made a donation to the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo.

Bills fans may want to beat Dalton’s team in Week 8 of the 2025 season.

But they’ll always be fans of Dalton, too.
