PSG preparations for their Champions League opener against Atalanta received a crucial update on Tuesday.

According to L’Equipe, defender Lucas Beraldo was absent from the final training session at the PSG Campus after spraining his left ankle.

The 21-year-old will reportedly miss both Wednesday’s European fixture and Sunday’s Ligue 1 trip to Marseille..

The update comes at a delicate moment for manager Luis Enrique, whose squad already lost Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue for several weeks due to muscle injuries sustained during the recent international break.

The French club who won their first Champions League title last season after beating Inter Milan 5-0 have their task cut out with their depth being tested early as French Champions prepare for a grueling group stage that includes Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Club have maintained their perfect Ligue 1 start with a 2-0 victory over RC Lens on Sunday, but the celebrations were overshadowed by injuries.

The club nevertheless have got some reassurance before the Champions League opener.

Encouraging signs for Kvaratskhelia and Lee offer optimism for PSG

There was cautious optimism elsewhere in the squad.

According to PSG Talk, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia underwent medical tests after picking up a knock against Lens. Results were encouraging, indicating only a minor knock with the Georgian forward potentially fit to face Atalanta.

Meanwhile Lee Kang-In is dealing with nothing serious and is expected to be back on September 17.

PSG’s ability to manage injuries could prove important in seeing a group that also features Newcastle United, Athletic Bilbao, Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon
