It’ll be a battle of the Carolinas on Sunday as No. 1 South Carolina and No. 12 UNC clash at the Ally Tipoff in Charlotte.
As a national favorite for another title, South Carolina is entering this season with a chip on their shoulder. Dawn Staley knows how to run a powerhouse program, and the head coach is returning key starters like Joyce Edwards, Tessa Johnson and Chloe Kitts. After a disappointing title loss last spring, can the Gamecocks bounce back?
UNC should pose a challenge for South Carolina though, despite a season-opening loss to Oklahoma in Paris. The Tar Heels were ranked third overall in the ACC preseason poll, and with eight returning players, Courtney Banghart’s team should be able to build upon what they started last season.
