A new main event looks to entertain fans at the Meta Apex when Waldo Cortes-Acosta faces Johnny Walker in heavyweight action.

Sean Brady vs. Gabriel Bonfim got canceled, and two entertaining heavyweights stepped up. Cortes-Acosta (17-4) is ranked eighth in the heavyweight rankings. He aims to end a two-fight losing streak against Walker (23-10, 1 NC), ranked 12th, who looks to make an easy transition from light heavyweight to heavyweight.

The co-main event will see a former contender attempting to secure another title shot. Tatiana Suarez (12-1) faces the rising Virna Jandiroba (23-4).

ProphetX UFC Vegas 124 value picks

When he’s on, Cortes-Acosta is dangerous. “Salsa Boy” lands 5.03 significant strikes per minute and averages 0.36 takedowns landed per 15 minutes. He has a 47% strike accuracy mark but absorbs 3.44 strikes.

Cortes-Acosta is currently on a two-fight losing streak against top contenders.

Walker is 2-2 in his last four fights. The dancing fighter lands 3.98 significant strikes and has a 55% strike accuracy mark. He’s known for his vicious strikes that can come at any moment.

It’s been an interesting journey for Walker. He went from being considered the future to working his way back up the ladder. Cortes-Acosta fights often, as this is his second fight in two months. He’s flown too close to the sun, but has proven to be a game fighter.

Cortes-Acosta should continue to entertain, winning via knockout within the first two rounds.

Winner of The Ultimate Fighter 23 strawweight tournament, Suarez lands 2.86 significant strikes per minute. She also averages 4.52 takedowns landed per 15 minutes, landing six in her last two fights. Suarez lost a fight for gold, but has since won two straight.

A former Invicta champion, Jandiroba holds the record for most control time in strawweight history. She averages 3.13 takedowns landed per 15 minutes, landing six against Tabatha Ricci. “Carcara” also lands 2.27 significant strikes.

It’s the third time this fight has been attempted, as both have backed out at various points.

Jandiroba has a solid takedown defense, but Suarez’s ground game is elite. The latter should make things interesting and force Jandiroba to scramble to adapt.

Like his nickname, Davey Grant is “Dangerous.” He lands 5.58 significant strikes per minute, landing 162 against Adrian Luna Martinetti. Grant also absorbs 4.04 strikes.

Smith lands 4.18 significant strikes and has a 48% strike accuracy mark. “Swift” also averages 2.98 takedowns landed per 15 minutes.

Given Smith’s ability to cause trouble on his feet and the floor, it may be too much for Grant, who is susceptible to taking damage. The two will swing away, with Smith having the edge before the second round ends.

Turman hasn’t won a fight since 2022 and hasn’t competed in the octagon since 2023. Ko last fought in July. He lands 3.15 significant strikes per minute and averages 3.00 takedowns landed per 15 minutes.

Turman lands 3.23 significant strikes and averages 1.55 takedowns landed. However, while “The Prodigy” can cause a dramatic upset, time is not on his side. He faces a dangerous return opponent. It should be easy target practice for Ko.

Kalshi UFC Vegas 124 markets

Of course, Kalshi offers their own batch of markets for UFC Vegas 124 as well. They’re outlined here:

  • Game lines (winner)
  • Go the distance
  • Method of victory
  • Round of victory
  • Method of finish
  • Round of finish

Kalshi UFC Vegas 124 value picks

Billy Elekana has won two straight via submission. He lands 2.71 significant strikes per minute and averages 0.85 takedowns landed per 15 minutes. Lucas Fernando competes in his second octagon fight since joining from LFA and his third since 2023. He lands 3.71 significant strikes and averages 1.71 takedowns landed.

Given another chance following an appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series, Fernando has made the most of the opportunity. He aims not to waste it.

While Elekana is a credible threat, his past wins, especially the level of talent he’s faced, do not inspire confidence. Fernando should add to his knockout total in this fight.

  • Mantas Kondratavicius to win ML vs. Andre Petroski (71% at Kalshi)

Mantas Kondratavicius has competed all over the combat sports world. He impressed on Dana White’s Contender Series and last fought in March, landing 75 significant strikes.

Petroski has lost three straight fights, with the competition significantly outlanding him. The veteran lands 2.75 significant strikes and averages 3.13 takedowns landed per 15 minutes.

Petroski’s odds have remained consistent due to the losing streak. Kondratavicius should make a statement on fight night.
