The Dallas Cowboys, following an embarrassing overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals, are in desperate need of a win in Week 9 over the Indianapolis Colts. If they somehow lost, it would be a devastating setback.

Even though the Cowboys are 3-5, the 4-2-1 New York Giants are within striking distance in the NFC East. They need a win this week. A key to winning this Week 9 game against the Colts will be the Cowboys’ health, which has become a bit of a problem.

However, fortunately for Dallas, Cowboys beat writer Tommy Yarrish shared a “hopeful” update on George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr. amid their injury issues, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Cowboys ‘hopeful’ to have Pickens, Porter in Week 9

“Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer with some injury updates on @1053thefan: CB Joey Porter Jr. (ankle) and WR George Pickens (hamstring) will be a little bit limited, but ‘hopeful’ they’re able to play Sunday vs. Indianapolis,” Yarrish shared.

This isn’t a very confident update, as Schottenheimer didn’t come out and say both players will play in Week 9. But the fact that he’s “hopeful” to have both is a good sign that Pickens and Porter can suit up this week.

In normal circumstances, it might make sense for the Cowboys to believe they can beat the hapless Colts without both players. But after losing to the Cardinals in Week 8, they cannot take anything lightly.

Both remain questionable, and there’s a good chance it will stay that way as the Cowboys reveal their final injury report for this Colts matchup.

Pickens and Porter are linked, not just due to their roots with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but also because they are both set to hit free agency this offseason, presenting a bit of a problem for the Cowboys.

There have been some trade rumors surrounding Pickens this season, and a loss to the Colts might be what pushes Jerry Jones to actually trade Pickens this season.

But before such a decision could come to fruition, the Cowboys need to see if Pickens is good to go, which is something they’re currently “hopeful” about.

This is a good update on Pickens, as he’s not been ruled out. But the uncertainty, even as the Cowboys have hope he’ll play, is something worth monitoring during the team’s final practice Friday and leading up to their Week 9 matchup against the Colts.
