The Timberwolves are holding their own without Anthony Edwards, who is expected to miss about two months after undergoing knee surgery. Ayo Dosunmu has been a major reason why.

The former Bulls guard has been an efficient scorer with Edwards out and nearly triple-doubled against the Bucks, validating the contract Minnesota gave him in the summer.

Dosunmu penned a letter to Timberwolves fans on Thursday, but it was his love for Edwards that stood out.

Here’s a look at the shades of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan that Dosunmu sees in his teammate.

Ayo Dosunmu explains how Anthony Edwards reminds him of Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan

Describing the way being traded to the Timberwolves changed his perspective on both basketball and life, Dosunmu wrote in a Players’ Tribune letter that Edwards’ trash-talking ability shocked him from day one.

“He’s special. As a trash talker, he’s like what you hear about with the Kobe stories, the MJ stories, the KG stories,” Dosunmu wrote. “No, really I think a better comparison is like the Ali stories.”

As far as NBA trash-talkers go, those three might be the gold standard. Times have changed around the NBA as new personalities have entered the league, but by Dosunmu’s estimation, Edwards is old school.

Dosunmu called Edwards a “great white shark” and said his trash-talking carries over to practice.

“Ant goes to the hoop like, ‘MFer you too little!’ Dosunmu said, adding that he “can see [Edwards is] going up a level” in practice when the playoffs start.

Once Edwards returns from knee surgery, the combination of chemistry and talent in Minnesota could put the Timberwolves in position to compete with the best in the West.
