Tyrese Maxey has been phenomenal to start the 2026-27 NBA season. He is the driving force behind the Philadelphia 76ers‘ success this season, as they have started with a 7-1 record. Maxey is averaging an impressive 29.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game.
Considering that the 76ers have a stacked roster, Maxey is performing even better than in the 2025-26 season. That is a testament to his role on the team and how Maxey has truly embraced being the number one guy on the 76ers.
Dwyane Wade loves how Tyrese Maxey is the main man in Philadelphia
The 76ers have one of the most stacked rosters in the league. Maxey is not the only big name on the roster because they have an All-NBA talent in Jaylen Brown, while also having two MVPs with Joel Embiid and LeBron James.
Despite their presence, it seems that the 76ers’ system is centered on Maxey. That just goes to show how effective Maxey has been in the past two seasons. He has cemented himself as the star player in one of the most complete rosters in the league.

Former NBA Finals MVP Dwyane Wade is known for playing with James back in their Miami Heat days. He had to take a step back to accommodate James’ stardom, and it seems that James himself is doing that for Maxey.
“He’s the leader of that team from the standpoint where that team is going where Tyrese is. Everybody who’s on that team, they’re there because they understand how good he is… the shots he’s making and taking, we haven’t seen that in Philly since AI,” Wade said on his podcast about Maxey’s stardom in Philly.
Wade brings up the trust that the 76ers have in Maxey, which is a big deal. With all the immensely talented players they have on the roster, maximizing Maxey’s stardom is helping them succeed, and that makes everyone’s lives easier.
