In the game of the Premier League weekend and arguably the season so far, Liverpool and Arsenal clash at Anfield.

The two sides come into the game in fine league form but off the back of contrasting penalty shootout success during the week.

The Reds proved Chelsea’s nemesis once again while the Gunners fell to Fleetwood Town in one of the greatest shocks in League Cup history.

Mikel Arteta has bigger things on his mind though as he looks to become the first Arsenal manager to retain the title. He is also looking to win for the first time as manager at Anfield having played in the last game the North Londoners won on the ground way back in August 2012.

As for his childhood friend Andoni Iraola, he is in the midst of his first great run in charge of Liverpool with the penalty win over Chelsea making it five on the bounce across all competitions.

With Manchester City’s future incredibly uncertain, a win here would both be his biggest in charge of the Reds so far and potentially push them into the title race.

Liverpool vs. Arsenal prediction

Despite Arsenal’s wretched run at Anfield in recent times, we are backing them to win a rare away game at a fellow big six side.

The Gunners will undoubtedly set up to frustrate the likes of Bradley Barcola and Florian Wirtz and will be incredibly hard to break down.

They scored their first set-piece goal of the campaign last weekend against Everton and that may be the route to success on the red side of Merseyside today.

There was just one goal in the two games between the sides last season with Liverpool coming out on top in this very fixture. A reverse is the tip here.

Score Prediction: Arsenal 1, Liverpool 0 (+750 at DraftKings)

Liverpool vs. Arsenal best bets

We’ve picked three betting angles for Liverpool vs. Arsenal.

With 1-0 to the Arsenal our prediction, this is an obvious place to start.

It is not obvious though given Liverpool’s recent exploits in front of goal. The Reds have scored 15 goals in the five games since their 3-0 home loss to Manchester City.

Arsenal are the best defensive side in the world though and have conceded just five goals in the league this season with three coming in their only loss at Brighton.

We are backing them to keep a sixth clean sheet here and end a 14-year wait for a win at Anfield.

Our score prediction makes this the other easy selection.

Arsenal’s defensive prowess is such that David Raya has only had to make 24 saves so far in the league this season.

With Declan Rice and Bruno Guimares in front of the back four, Florian Wirtz and co. will have their work cut out finding a way through.

Gabriel scored his first goal of the season against Everton last week and we think he’ll prove the scourge of Merseyside once again here.

Ezri Konsa’s opener in that win over the Toffees was surprisingly the Gunners’ first from a set piece all campaign but it could open the floodgates.

The Brazilian may prove hard to stop if Rice’s delivery is on point.
