For most of the Kirby Smart era, Georgia has won the games it was supposed to win. Now the Bulldogs enter their biggest rivalry game of the year coming off a rare upset loss.
Auburn’s stunning 27-24 triumph in Athens two weeks ago not only knocked UGA out of the top spot in the polls; it also represented Georgia’s first loss to an unranked team since October 2019, when the Bulldogs fell at home to South Carolina.
Given a bye week to tinker with what went wrong, Smart undoubtedly will have his charges out for blood as they face No. 17 Florida in an unusual venue. For the first time in a rivalry that dates back more than a century, Georgia and Florida will face off in Atlanta, as the series has been relocated from its traditional home in Jacksonville for two years due to stadium renovations.
The Gators should enter the game flying high on the heels of a huge upset of then-No. 7 Texas in Austin before their bye week. Then again, it’s difficult to predict which Florida team will show up — that version or the Gators who were handled easily by South Carolina and Missouri the previous two weeks.
