Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has been the NBA’s leading scorer in the 2026-27 season. In five games, he is averaging 36.2 points per game, which includes a massive 52-point explosion against the Utah Jazz.
Against the Golden State Warriors on Friday, Doncic scored 37 points, utterly outplaying his newfound rival, Yaxel Lendeborg. However, it was the rookie who got the last laugh because the Lakers collapsed, blew a 25-point lead, and lost to the Warriors 112-95.
Luka Doncic has taken accountability for the Lakers’ loss to the Warriors
Early in the game against Golden State, Doncic had a 21-point first quarter. He still ended the game with 37 points, but his 16 points for the other three quarters were not enough to help the Lakers win.
It became even worse when Doncic was on the receiving end of an ankle-breaker by Stephen Curry. Doncic might have won the individual battle against Lendeborg, but it was a bad result when the overall picture is considered.

This is also a concerning look moving forward for the Lakers because this is another worrying loss. They had a huge lead, but they collapsed and crumbled, en route to this defeat. Luka himself knows it, so that is why he is taking accountability even though he had a good game.
“I don’t know what it’s going to take, obviously reps, just playing these games. The Warriors are a good example; they play defense, they shock a lot, so it was a good game for us. Not good because we lost, but it’s gonna take time for sure. I really like playing with these guys. Me first. I got to be better. We lose together, we win together,” Doncic said about the Lakers’ loss to the Warriors.
It seems his co-star, Austin Reaves, has also agreed with this sentiment, as he also took accountability for the defeat. They are playing well, but the supporting cast has been a bit underwhelming.
However, they know that they will have to step up to inspire the rest of the team. They want to lead by example, and the rest of the squad will help when they are motivated as well.
