The Dallas Cowboys just beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football with a dominant 38-21 victory. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are now 3- 4 and have a chance to make the playoffs.

While it’s going to take Dallas making up some ground, the New York Giants are banged up and sitting at just 4-2-1. It’s very possible to make up that ground to secure the NFC East division lead. The trade deadline might be a key time to make such a run.

However, ESPN’s Ben Solak shared a horrible trade idea for the Cowboys, one that would send George Pickens to the Kansas City Chiefs in a move that’d admit their odds of contending in 2026 are over way too early.

Cowboys get horrible trade idea that sends George Pickens to Chiefs

“Send a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 conditional fifth-round pick to the Cowboys for George Pickens,” Solak proposed.

This trade idea would be a horrible idea for the Cowboys. While Solak is proposing this trade from the Chiefs’ perspective amid the team’s big wide receiver need, from the Cowboys’ side of this deal, it would be a horrible mistake.

Pickens has an uncertain future with the Cowboys, so if they lose Week 8 and Week 9, then maybe a trade could be justified. But if they win even one of those games, Pickens shouldn’t go anywhere.

They already bought Joey Porter Jr. in a trade, investing in the 2026 season. Trading Pickens, especially for such a lackluster return, wouldn’t make sense for the Cowboys.

Dallas would have a hard time justifying this trade to the fan base, especially since they have a chance of winning the division, and Pickens could be a huge part of their November-December surge, if there is one.

CeeDee Lamb is great and the unquestioned No. 1. Ryan Fournoy is a solid No. 3 option as well. But with Pickens involved, the Dallas offense is a really difficult one to stop, especially if Javonte Williams and the ground game get going as they did in Week 7.

A Pickens trade would make sense in a lost season, since he’s hitting free agency after this season. But with the Cowboys in contention for the NFC East and potentially finding their stride, Pickens getting traded would not make much sense.

Solak’s trade idea would be great for the Chiefs, but horrible for the Cowboys. With games against the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts before the deadline, the Cowboys should be 5-4 and clear buyers, not sellers, as Solak’s trade idea implies.
