Luka Doncic had a standout performance on Sunday in the Los Angeles Lakers‘ win over the Utah Jazz. He posted 52 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists. Doncic also became the first player in Lakers franchise history to have a game with 50+ points, 10+ assists, 5+ rebounds, and 5+ made three-pointers in a single game.

For the Lakers’ players and coaches, they were glad to be part of that performance. This includes head coach JJ Redick, who is always in awe of his star player whenever he is in the zone, as he was on Sunday.

JJ Redick speaks on what it’s like seeing Luka Doncic in the zone up close

When he is in the zone, there might be no player who can hold a candle to Doncic. He is one of the best players in the league already, with his control on offense through scoring and playmaking. Doncic can always dominate a game, but whenever he truly takes over, no one can stop him.

That was the case during the Lakers’ win against the Jazz on Sunday. They won the game 132-123 on the back of a Doncic outburst. The Lakers truly needed that because beyond Austin Reaves, who scored 29 points, it was a tough game for most of the team.

After the promising start to the season, Walker Kessler only scored two points against the Jazz. Doncic truly took over, and it was a glorious experience for the Lakers, including Redick, who was calling the shots for his team from the sidelines. However, he made sure to truly take in what was happening with Doncic leading the charge.

“When he’s in the flow state, he gets into like showman mode; he’s on stage performing, and that’s always, it’s always really fun to watch,” Redick said about what it’s like seeing Doncic dominate up close.

Doncic is one of the players who could feasibly score beyond the 83 points that Bam Adebayo did earlier in 2026. If he continues to play as he did against the Jazz, he will have an even better performance than this latest one. Thankfully for Lakers fans, Redick will always allow him to cook when he is truly in the zone.
