While the offseason is firmly in the rearview mirror, teams around the association are still making moves to improve their rosters, with the New York Knicks being no different. Earlier in the week, the Knicks signed Dalton Knecht to a two-way deal, bringing the former first-round pick’s brief time in the free-agent pool to an end.
Knecht was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers earlier in the month after a two-year stint in the City of Angels that saw him somewhat struggle to adapt to life in the NBA. Across 132 games with the Lakers, Knecht averaged 7.1 points per game, but the real blow to his stock would come in his second season in Los Angeles, which saw his scoring average dip by five points.
Given that the Knicks’ roster seems to be fairly stacked, there were some questions about how the team will utilize Knecht, and on Sunday night, head coach Mike Brown filled in the NBA world.
Knecht will feature for the Knicks’ G League roster for the time being
Mike Brown says Knicks want Dalton Knecht to play as much as possible to the plan initially is to have in Westchester playing games with the Knicks’ G League team.

As reported by SNYTV’s Ian Begley, New York wants the former first-round pick to get as many reps in as possible, which will lead to him being used at the G League level with the West Chester Knicks. This shouldn’t come as too much of a shock given that Knecht signed a two-way contract, which allows the player to be used at both the NBA and G League level.
For what it’s worth, this isn’t exactly a bad thing either, as the Knicks have made use of their two-way stars in years past, including Landry Shamet, who featured in 27 games during the 2024-25 season for West Chester.
The West Chester Knicks are slated to get their season underway on November 6th, with a match against the Maine Celtics, the G League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, so that could be the first look fans have at Dalton Knecht at the G League level since his move.
