Two titles are on the line in Abu Dhabi this Saturday at UFC 333. The main event will see Alexander Volkanovski defend the UFC featherweight title against Movsar Evloev.

Volkanovski (28-4) lost the featherweight title to Ilia Topuria after failing to capture the lightweight title against Islam Makhachev. He won the belt back and defended it in two contests against Diego Lopes. Ranked No. 1 in the UFC’s featherweight rankings, Evloev (20-0) has won 10 straight in the UFC.

The co-main event will see the culmination of a trilogy between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili for the UFC bantamweight title. Merab (21-5) decimated Yan (20-5) in 2023, but the latter won the rematch in December to become a two-time bantamweight champion.

Also on the card, heavyweight contender Alexander Volkov returns to action, while Aaron Pico looks to make a name for himself in the UFC.

Volkanovski vs. Evloev prediction and best bet

Volkanovski lands 5.99 significant strikes per minute and has a 57% strike accuracy mark. He averages 1.63 takedowns landed per 15 minutes. In two bouts against Diego Lopes, Volkanovski landed 256 significant strikes. Evloev lands 3.91 significant strikes and averages 4.78 takedowns landed. He has landed 31 in his last five fights.

Volkanovski is on a level above everyone else. He’s well-prepared, technical, and can be reserved and violent when he wants to. “The Great” has a jab that can provide plenty of damage. In the pocket, nobody may be better than Volkanovski.

Evloev finally gets his title shot. Though he’s a lethal wrestler, he used his striking to take care of Lerone Murphy. That could have been to entertain, ensuring he didn’t get skipped over. What makes Evloev stand out is that he has a solid standup game, and great transitions and ground control.

Normally, Volkanovski can use his fight IQ to work past the ground game. But Evloev is different. He’s lethal on all fronts, and despite Volkanovski’s elite ability, the former may be too fast for Volkanovski to counter.

Yan vs. Merab 3 prediction and best bet

Yan lands 5.16 significant strikes per minute. He also averages 1.70 takedowns landed per 15 minutes. Merab lands 4.42 significant strikes. “The Machine” is just that on the floor, averaging 5.97 takedowns landed per 15 minutes, landing 20 against Cory Sandhagen.

In their first fight, Merab broke the record for takedown attempts (49) against Yan, landing eleven. In the rematch, the sixth fight since then for Merab and fourth for Yan, the former landed 134 significant strikes, while the latter landed 139. Yan landed five takedowns, while Merab landed two.

Yan appeared to be injured in the first fight. Merab attempted to compete about two months after his last fight in the rematch. Now, a full year has passed, and both are recharged and ready.

Which Merab will show up? If it’s the version from December, Yan will win. If the wrestling machine returns, Yan will have a tough night. Preparing for one fight compared to multiple in a year, Merab may very well return to form. Yan will make it a challenge, especially with his striking, but Merab should get his hands raised.

Kavanagh vs. Temirov prediction and best bet

Kavanagh lands 4.13 significant strikes and averages 1.12 takedowns landed. He beat former UFC champion Brandon Moreno but lost against Brandon Royval via submission. Temirov lands 4.73 significant strikes and averages 0.68 takedowns. He did take out former title contender Steve Erceg.

Flyweights on the main card. Now that’s best for business. Both fighters like to brawl. However, Temirov appears faster and stronger. He’s a tank who is ready to take down anyone in his path. That may be the case here.

Volkov vs. Kuniev prediction and best bet

Volkov lands 4.84 significant strikes per minute. He also averages 0.54 takedowns landed per 15 minutes. Kuniev lands 4.32 significant strikes and averages 0.79 takedowns landed.

It could be easily argued that Volkov beat Ciryl Gane when they fought, but the judges gave the fight to the latter. Since then, Volkov has won two straight and should be considered the next heavyweight title contender. Usually, if you wait too long for a shot at gold, you lose your momentum. However, this fight feels different.

Volkov’s jab is elite and could get through Kuniev’s defense. He can also navigate in the clinch, making it tough for Kuniev to breathe. Volkov could get some style points while he’s at it.

Pico vs. Keita prediction and best bet

Pico lost his UFC debut against Lerone Murray, but landed 106 significant strikes and six takedowns against Patricio “Pitbull” Freire. The former Bellator prospect and wrestling champion has nine knockout wins. Keita, who replaces Arnold Allen, lands 3.91 significant strikes per minute. He’s 1-1 in the UFC since joining from Oktagon.

Pico has a lot of promise, but hasn’t gotten over the hump yet. Regardless, a left hook to the liver still causes damage, regardless of the opponent. Facing Allen would have been a massive opportunity for Pico. Unless there’s a big upset, Pico should earn a decision win.
