The Philadelphia Eagles got a scary update on Jalen Hurts after Week 5’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. After a blood clot was found in his calf, Hurts was placed on injured reserve, knocking him out for four weeks.
However, there was a lot more concern than simply Hurts landing on IR and potentially coming back at some point later this season. There was real worry Hurts could miss the rest of the year.
Unfortunately, those fears were confirmed, as Tom Pelissero of The Ringer reports that Hurts is now likely to miss the rest of the Eagles’ 2026 season following a massive update from his agent, Nicole Lynn.
Jalen Hurts set to miss rest of 2026 season with serious blood clot issue
“Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is expected to be sidelined for multiple months after new imaging over the weekend found several blood clots in his lungs,” Pelissero reports. “Hurts is now on blood thinners and should have no long-term effects. But it’s unlikely he plays again this season.”
Hurts’ agent also shared a statement on Hurts, confirming that Hurts has “Deep Vein Thrombosis” and “Bilateral Pulmonary Emboli”, and his treatment involves going on blood thinners.
While this is a scary and massively unfortunate situation for Hurts, who is now set to miss the rest of the 2026 season for the Eagles, Lynn did share that “Jalen’s prognosis is very good.”

The reason why is that Hurts is expected to make a full recovery, and that he should be able to resume playing in the NFL next year if all goes well.
But for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season, Hurts will be out due to this issue. The blood clots in his lungs necessitated this change for Hurts and the Eagles, as playing in the NFL on blood thinners is not an option.
Now, Hurts will miss the remainder of the 2026 season, leaving Tanner McKee, rookie Cole Payton, and potentially mid-season pickup Joe Milton as the options for Philadelphia at QB going forward.
The Eagles’ Super Bowl MVP quarterback has a season-ending blood clot issue and will try to make an NFL comeback in 2027 coming off this scary diagnosis.
