The Florida Panthers acquired Brady Tkachuk during the offseason hoping he would become another important piece of their championship ambitions.

On Tuesday night, they received a spectacular reminder of what he can provide. Brady scored a natural hat trick in the second period as Florida defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-3 at Nationwide Arena.

His older brother Matthew assisted on all three goals, creating a remarkable moment in NHL history.

Brady finished with three goals and an assist, while Matthew recorded five assists. The brothers combined for nine points in one of the most memorable performances of the young NHL season.

Brady Tkachuk scores three goals in eight minutes

The Panthers trailed 1-0 entering the second period before Brady completely changed the game. He scored his first goal at 2:27, tying the contest before adding a power-play goal at 6:00.

Just over four minutes later, Brady completed his natural hat trick with another power-play goal. The three consecutive goals came in a span of only eight minutes and three seconds.

Matthew assisted on all three, helping create a family achievement that immediately became one of the night’s biggest stories. It was Brady’s fourth career hat trick and his first three-goal performance since joining Florida.

The Panthers acquired him from the Ottawa Senators on June 23, bringing the brothers together on the same NHL roster. Brady had gone without a goal through his first six games with Florida before Tuesday’s explosion.

He certainly made up for the wait.

Matthew Tkachuk delivers historic supporting performance

Matthew’s five assists tied his career high and established a Panthers franchise record for assists in a single period with four during the second. The brothers became just the third pair of siblings in the past 40 years to record at least four points apiece in the same NHL game.

The other pairs to accomplish that feat were Daniel and Henrik Sedin, along with Peter and Anton Stastny. Matthew’s contributions extended beyond Brady’s three goals. He also helped create scoring opportunities for teammates as Florida pulled away.

Sam Reinhart and Carter Verhaeghe scored twice each, while Seth Jones added four assists. Florida finished with four power-play goals on six opportunities.

Panthers get exactly the performance they needed

The victory improved Florida to 3-2-2 and ended a difficult stretch that had included four losses in five games.

For a team with championship expectations, the performance offered an encouraging reminder of its offensive potential. The Panthers now have two Tkachuk brothers capable of influencing games through physicality, scoring and playmaking.

Their chemistry was evident Tuesday, particularly during a second period that transformed a one-goal deficit into a commanding Florida advantage.

The Panthers return home Thursday to face the Vancouver Canucks.

After Tuesday’s performance, opponents have another reason to be concerned about Florida’s offense. Stopping one Tkachuk is difficult enough. The Blue Jackets discovered what can happen when both brothers take over the same game.
